10 YEARS OF SMAC
(30 January 2009, 20:08 | SMAC) On 31st January of 1999, Sid Meier`s Alpha Centauri was released for Windows in the United States (and on February the 17th in Europe). The game was followed by an expansion, Alien Crossfire in September 1999 and was released for Macintosh computers in February/March of 2000.
Hailed as a successor to acclaimed Civilization II, it introduced many new features later adapted for future Civilization sequels. It received many awards and was hailed by many as the strategy game of 1999. It was followed by a trilogy of novels written by the game story developer, a graphic novel and a GURPS role-playing game sourcebook.

ACDG5 LANDS ON CHIRON!
(10 June 2008, 09:24 | SMAC | 6 comments) The fifth Alpha Centauri Democracy Game has launched. In an Alpha Centauri alternate reality, the surviving Unity officers subdued UN Commissioner Lal before landing.
Leading the Unity Command faction (which has no bonuses, penalties or social engineering aversions), their mission is to restore unity and cooperation among the expedition leaders or, if necessary, to subdue them and conquer their factions on the Planet.
This game is specifically geared to players new to democracy and multiplaying games. This is a vanilla SMAC game and veteran players are invited to drop by and offer advice.
