GAMEZILLA: 73% FINAL SCORE
(3 January 2001, 19:00 | CtP2) GameZilla has made their view of CTPII available for the online community to see. Barek Tutterrow sets the tone in his opening paragraph.
For a game that is all about human advancements, there are very few advancements of any kind in this game.
It does not take long to realize how Tutterrow sees 73% a fitting final grade for the game.
Even though the way trading works in the game has been streamlined, mayors can be assigned to run the daily operations of individual cities, and the new diplomatic relations screen works great, it still feels very stale and boring. I don’t know what I expected out of CTP2, but a little more innovation would have been nice.
[Furthermore], a turn-based strategy game doesn't need to stagger the ocular nerves, but some more visual fireworks would have at least kept me interested in creating new units to see what they could do.
According to GZ's website, this puts CTPII, in their eyes, as being not far back in the pack. To summarize in one word: worthy.
Negatives aside, this GZ reviewer concedes that it should resonate well with faithful followers of the Civilization series. At the same time, he admits that he is not one of them.
If you have never played any [Civ] game before, I could heartily recommend [CTPII]. It is definitely the best version of a [Civ] game I've ever played.
I'm apparently not a big enough fan so I'm giving it 73.
By contrast, GZ's self-proclaimed CTP addict Melissa Proffitt gave the original CTP a very favourable 95% final score.
On an aside, Tutterrow appears to be confused about one fact that is raised in his first sentence: Civilization II was developed and published by MicroPROSE, not Activision. - DanQ
WESW`S SITE OPENS
(3 January 2001, 04:56 | CtP2) As we had announced in the About section, and as the visitors of the CTP2-Creation forum knew already, Wes Whitaker's site here on Apolyton has opened.
The site contains the alpha version of the Medieval Mod II, as well as the Medieval Mod 4 for CTP1. Along with that are some other ctp2 files like Harlan's Graphics Pack(a must have for every mod maker).
So, once again, welcome Wes!! :) - MarkG
