LANCER: Faces of Apolyton #5, 5/Mar/2002

Solver: Back to the "Off-Topic" forum - what is the reason of us seeing such amounts of spam and stupidity in the forums, and when will it ever end?
Lancer: Solver, that's not really a fair question. Sure, those things happen but why not ask how long the great discussions will last? The question contains the same animosity between on and off topicers that you asked about earlier. There really is no good reason for it. Let go of your bias, drop your baggage and come on down to the basement and kick your feet up a spell. :)

Solver: What's your position in the fight of Apolyton vs. ACOL?
Lancer: My position is pants dropped and bottom bared in the general direction of ACOL. ;) (Sure, it's a dangerous preoccupation considering the bunch over there).

Truthfully, I'm not involved anymore and I'm not aware of anyone who is.

Solver: How do you see Apolyton in about two years from now?
Lancer: Much the same. People come and people go, and though I miss old friends the turnover is good for the discussion. Personally I tend to participate less and read more. There is so much to learn on topic regarding the games and I'm often struck by the observations made by Apolytoners. I learn a lot as I said, as there are some deep files who frequent these forums. I profit from their insights, and new stuff is always coming in and will continue to for years to come I'm certain.

I recall one tidbit about CivII that came out not long before CivIII was shipped. On certain turns revolutions would only take one turn, on others several turns! What an observation on a game which I had been prating on about as having everything said that could be said! I see Apolyton doing just fine in a couple of years, perhaps discussing CivIV.

Regarding the OT there is always something up, things worth reading.

Solver: Can't resist this one... what do you think of Brian Reynolds and would CivIII be any different if he stayed at Firaxis?
Lancer: I like Brian Reynolds for the simple reason that he responded in a thread of mine on borders that I made during the early list days, bringing that bit of news out for the first time...in my thread, did I mention that already? ;) I also like him for his efforts on a series that I get such enjoyment from. Sure, Civ 3 would be different if he had stayed. I would guess that leaving ones mark on such a game would be very gratifying.

Solver: Do you think that a company without Sid Meier could ever make a good Civ game?
Lancer: Sure, I don't doubt it for a minute. I believe there are people right here at Apolyton who with the backing could turn out a great turn based strategy game based on history. In fact in a couple of the forums they are doing exactly that.

Solver: What do you consider the best games released in 2001 ( I hope you'll rate CivIII as No. 1 :))
Lancer: CivIII, then there's CivIII, followed closely by CivIII. Really, I'm the wrong one to ask as I just play CivIII. Were other games released in 2001? How interesting.

Solver: And finally, what are your hobbies and out of PC occupations?
Lancer: I like to read, play golf and spend time with my wife. I don't read very fast, my golf game is the absolute pits but I'm a great lover so it averages. ;)

Thanks Solver, best of luck to you with your resumed "Faces" interviews.
