the guy lost a billion in all this... well I am sure he is still well funded in other ways, but he is surely one of biggest individual losers in all this...

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, OneFootInTheGrave....after he gets out of the private hospital I'm sure he's been checked into, I doubt he'll be missing any meals...
I'm with the guy who coldcocked him. Why do we treat these people like folk heroes?

Sure, punching him was a moral wrong. No denying that.
But I can *definitely* understand the frustration that led to the act, and this tool's wrongs, and all the lives he has impacted by playing fast and loose (then whining and b*tching for a rescue!?!?)....that goes way beyond whatever wrong was done to him via a solid right. IMO, of course.

(but that's about as close as I can bring myself to defending him)

Oh, of course. My wife was watching the news last night and there was a little bit about Fuld. She was not kind to the man, and I agree.
Hell, he may deserve prison time (doubt it, but possible). If so, fine by me. Nation of laws and all that, what what.

That's another matter that should be dealt with, btw.
Also, probably not really, as his prison would be a "white collar" prison.

I find this claim dubious - particularly so if we do in fact improve our health care system in this country (not holding breath). That being said, I know what you're saying. He's caused substantial harm.
quote: We live in a society that punishes people for small scale murder, but once you get up to killing or maiming hundreds or thousands it is really hard to get jail time. |
Different issue, having to do with the definition of murder.
As I see it, this Fuld situation is about the definition of theft.

Dude, I'd say it's even worse than that. Once you get past a couple thousand, you're in the folk hero category too. If we can find a way to justify your behavior and/or cast you as a patriot to your "nation-under-siege" you might as well be a lesser god....

There are very very few states where you get prison time for smoking or being in possesion of small quantities of pot. In most places it no worse than a speeding ticket. As long as you're white of course.

you should be punching your politicians instead, and not guys like him, as even though he greased the wheels, he greased because "if he doesn't, his competitor will"... and ultimately it is the political "buying" power that politicans encourage which create all this/such mess... I mean punch him for running Lehmann into the wall, but what to do than with Rummy, Wolf, Dick & co for 100k+ dead in Iraq...
but in this particular case, at least his company went under, he lost a clear (and only) billion... sure he has his pension what not... so he is still millionaire, but he pales in the likes of Paulson, Bernarke, Greenspan and especially political arm of this all in White House, Senate and Congress...
So whacking him is a relatively poor choice, but easily "understood" target... people should in reality be whacking those holding the public office now, and 20 years prior, but in reality this would not get them too far... so instead they should be voting... or in the case of Aggie... sitting at home and not doing anything at all...

Foot,
I couldn't agree more, and believe me, I have a long list of folks I'd love to give similar treatment to.
Being at the gym just made this particular guy a good target of opportunity is all, and I can't fault his assailant much for taking the shot presented.

Yessir.
Lots of populism in the office today. People want jail time. I'm sure some is deserved.
More important is to structure things going forward to limit the impact of these people's greedy stupidity. Because greed and stupidity will remain.
