Well, to be fair, English is the most bastardized germanic language their is. It is by far the most latinized and the most frenchified one... If you check on wikipedia, 40% of English words come from French... Which is to say, I remember learning English in school and thinking that the syntax and grammar were the most difficult parts since well, as far as vocabulary goes, I couldn't go wrong half the time by saying a french word with a faux English accent and get away with it. And now, that I'm learning Dutch, I find it more difficult because the Netherlands were culturally less influenced by France than England... although I must say rivier, oranje, bureau, etc. are bound to be recognized by any french speaker.
But I disgress, can't wait for tomorrow... Meanwhile I'm playing some Colonization and I gotta say, this game will win a lot just from a f*cking update to the AI... Man I can't stand having freaking foreign units sitting next to my colonies in time of peace...

IGN is the first to report about Civilization IV: Colonization from the floor of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, more commonly known as E3. In a quick article IGN's Editor-in-Chief for the PC team Jason Ocampo brings good news:
There are now historical maps as well as randomly generated ones, so if you want to redo the American Revolution with a map of the United States you can. There are two leaders for each of the four playable factions in the game (Spain, England, the Netherlands, and France), and one of them is John Adams.
The article talks about the role of religion in the game and reveals there will be 52 Founding Fathers (almost double that of the original game), including Betsy Ross who will boost garment production.
Head on over to IGN to read the full (but short) article. As more Civ4: Col news gets posted from E3, we will of course keep you up-to-date.

GameSpot's Andrew Park posted a preview of Civilization IV: Colonization from the floor of E3. Informing us the game will be 300 turns long and the gameplay will be quite similar to the original, except that the natives will behave more like full-fledged civs than disparate tribes. Another difference is that they can apparently produce super-specialists:
In fact, you can spend much of the early game building a thriving economy with trade routes spanning your entire holdings and leading up to the homesteads of various tribes, who, when parlayed with properly, may provide special training to help further your cause, even producing "great people," such as master furriers who can craft exceptionally well-made coats out of the raw material of animal furs that fetch an extremely high price on the marketplace.
The article also talks about declaring revolution, which appears harder this time around than in the original because this game is shorter:
And since the game has a limited timeframe of 300 turns, you can't decide to declare independence with only 10 turns left, since you simply won't have enough time to turn away the tide. The demonstration version we watched declared independence at about turn 225, which may or may not have been premature, since we had only 55% of our colonies' popular support, and not nearly enough ships and soldiers to turn away the attacks of the king.
With some more tidbits of info on Founding Fathers, the new constitution feature, the map scripts and the differences between the playable nations, you can find the full article over at GameSpot.

Dutch gaming site Gamed has a scoop as the first to post new screenshots of Civilization IV: Colonization from the floor of the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The four images show off respectively gorgeous naval combat, an early Dutch empire, a well-developed English colony with the main map interface visible, and the colony screen. Check them out by visiting Gamed. Thanks to forum user Xochipilli for the heads-up.

We see that the game isn't finished by two things : 1 colonies founded next to each other and 2 the f*ugly city screen where I can't tell a church from a forgery.

I don't think there's anything wrong or unfinished about founding colonies next to each other: you could do that in the original as well (but not in Civ4). With the smaller radii that actually makes sense.
The colony screen looks fairly similar to the original as well, but I agree it doesn't work too good, very messy. But it'll be a massive challenge to get that right though, it'll be interesting to see if they can pull it off.

UGO's gamesblog is reporting from gaming conference E3 about the upcoming Civilization IV: Colonization.
The game is actually set during the period of rampant imperialism, when European nations ventured out to discover themselves a New World. The maps are randomly generated – unless you choose to load up a pre-designed one, that is – but the colonizers are all specific to the period: English, French, Spanish and Dutch. Much like the civilization and leader benefits in Civ IV, the choice of nationality comes with specific benefits, such as increased Cross production for the English (which help attract immigrants) or a military bonus against native peoples for the Spanish.
The article explains that the New World will be occupied when you arrive so you'll have to find a way to deal with the natives, one way or another. Once established players have to build up their economy to prepare for the eventual goal of declaring independence, which involves drafting your own constitution, based on the US one, and fighting a Revolutionary War, which is complicated by the 300 turn limit.
The article also mentions the addition of 52 Founding Fathers, a suite of modding tools and the option for four-way multiplayer. Read the full article on UGO.

Gaming news site ShackNews has posted a preview of Civilization IV: Colonization from the floor of E3.
In a demonstration of Firaxis Games upcoming PC strategy title, Firaxis marketing manager Dennis Shirk explained that the game isn`t strictly limited to the peaceful—if somewhat backhanded and occasionally troubled—English colonization experience. While a spin through the 300 turns of a standard Colonization game might be more politically and diplomatically skewed, other factions like the Spanish are built for swift, brutal, and early conquest of the new world`s native inhabitants.
The article states that the gameplay of Colonization will be very similar to that of Civ4, with a few notable exceptions such as the way colonists have specific skills and are assigned to specific buildings inside cities. According to Dennis Shirk the first two-third of the game are all about building up the economy, the final part is about declaring independence, which means spreading rebellious sentiments, forging a constitution and starting a war with your home country.
The game is in the final stages of development with the focus being on polish now. You can read the full preview on ShackNews.

I do hope when they said "gameplay" they meant "the moving around of units on the board"...

Yeah, you can clearly tell most of the people writing these articles never played the original Colonization or probably any other TBS for that matter, so Civ4 is basically their only frame of reference.
I hope IGN and PC Gamer have (more elaborate) previews later, as at least Jason Ocampo and Dan Stapleton are as big a fan of the first game as we are...

I hope so because the previews we have had for now kind of stink. I want t know the differences that exists between the old one and the 2008 one... not that the objective is Independance...
