In call To Power you could start and finish in Renaissance or even Modern.

Got spare money?

I've heard of people just disconnecting the tech tree. So like the most advanced tech you could get was Banking or Divine Right or something.

Tired of ads?

Just go to Assets\XML\Technologies\CIV4TechInfos.xml

Most techs have pre-reqs listed.

For the tech right after what you want, edit the prereqs to be like Future Tech or something so they won't be researchable.
