Welcome to our new Spore forum! As you probably already know if you are here, Spore is an upcoming game by EA/Maxis that will allow you to control a species starting with individual cells and leading all the way to spaceflight. Spore is currently scheduled for release on September 7th of this year. So, feel free to use this forum for any discussion related to Spore.
Why a Spore forum here at Apolyton, you might ask? Well, the real answer is because we admins thought it's a good idea. It's hard to say whether Civ players will mostly enjoy Spore or not, but the game does seem to have some similarities to Civ and even has a civilization phase. Also, former Firaxian and lead designer of Civ4, Soren Johnson, is working on Spore as a designer-programmer.

Oh please. Can we get a new subforum for WoW? How about Infinity Engine games? Or NWN? Those have all resulted in more discussion than Spore has/will. And I'm sure there are others.
From what I've seen, Spore is 100% hype at this point.
Whatever. Guess I can vote with my $$$ and not renew next time.

Those are not necessarily completely impossible options, but we are a Civ site and tend to cover Civ(-like) games and their derivatives, including other games by Civ developers. Spore falls under the latter category and one could make a case that it's somewhat Civ-like as well -- not much less so than MoO, RoN, MoM, Nation States, EU, etc anyway (and more so than WoW or NWN). We've had many forums for such (vaguely) Civ-like games over the years, some of which are still around and some of which no longer -- Spore is just another one in that line.
It's not like we'll be abandoning Civ and rename ourselves to Apolyton Spore Site all of a sudden. We're mainly starting this forum to see if it goes anywhere -- in case you haven't noticed Apolyton is not as well-trafficked anymore as it was a couple of years ago, this is one of many things we're trying to encourage more discussion. If it doesn't work we have no problem with folding it back into Other Games at some point, but this game seems like it might have some potential in this community. Give it a chance...
