Wandered away, back again Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

After putting GCII DL aside since last April I picked it up again. I got an e-mail announcing the upcoming expansion and that was enough to get the interest up again. Then I skimmed some of the AARs I did in January to April of last year and remembered how much fun GC2 was. Long story short, I ended up wasting (er...investing!) all Sunday on 3 short games with the Krynn. I was pleased that the basic strategies came back, even if I was caught flat footed a few times.

A few questions for those who have stuck around for the several generations of patches after last April and continuous improvement Stardock is famous for:

• Has Stardock un-nerfed diplomacy and tech trading? Tech trading and AI Group Research was a decidedly un-fun part of the game for me and I simply turned it off. This made diplomacy and the Terrans particularly disadvantaged and similarly un-fun.
• Any other changes since back in April?

I did really like what I read about the last expansion. As usual Stardock is going all out, and the expansion will likely recraft the game – yet again. If I can find some more time I’ll see if I can get some more AARs done as I explore the game.

Unfortunately I only started playing DA more recently, so I do not know how it compares with earlier versions.

All I know is that i like it. Worthy of the 4x legacy.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I too have wandered back in with the new beta. I fell away from GC a few months after GC2 was released, and never played the DA expansion... though I did buy it...

Anyway, having some fun with the game again, but, at least for me, it is very unstable. I have played five games on a small galaxy and four of the five have gotten trashed by a crash to desktop bug (reproducible, so I can't just reload and continue on). Anyone else having the same experience?

Suffering from ads?

Previously GC2 was completely stable. But by a strange coincidence GC2A just crashed on me - the first time it has done so. I wonder if that is something to do with 1.8x? The previous version from back in April (1.5?) worked fine. I haven't played the Beta. Hopefully Stardock will sort out these sorts of bugs before the release in March.
