Rock Band Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

IGN gave it 9.4/10
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/836/836118p1.html

Seems to be better than GH3.

$179 for a gimmick, vs $249 for a gimmick that also lets you play other gimmicks.

You do not understand. The Wiimote itself is the gimmick, so that is inherent to virtually every game on the $249 platform.

So you've got a $179 gimmick vs a $249 gimmick. The difference is, you probably won't see Halo 4 being controlled with the guitar from Rock Band.

(Disclaimer: Yes, I know Boom Boom Rocket on the 360 supports the guitar as a controller, in addition to the DDR pad)

My point - you spend $179, and play Rock band till you tire of the gimmick.

You spend $249 on Wii, and you play Wii sports till you tire of the gimmick (of playing Wii sports with the remote).

Now you can still go out and buy other games, some gimmicky in themselves, some not so gimmicky except for relying the wiimote, and play them.

Please don't insult us with this stupidity. I don't even know where to begin.

To illustrate how stupid this discussion is, please summarize your argument in one sentence. Even you, I suspect, will end up saying "WTF?"

FWIW, it's $169 at Best Buy for the game + all instruments. $59 if you just want the game. Can also buy the instruments individually as well. The instruments can then be used in sequels to the game, or in other music/rhythm games. For example, I can use my GH2 controller in Rock Band or GH3.

I didnt happen to know the controllers were interchangeable with GH.

Is the comparison to the Wii really any different if Rock Band is $169 or $179? (heres where an insult would go, if I were as quick to use insulting language as you are)

BTW, is it really necessary for me to comb through your posts for every mistake of fact? That seems a silly use of time, in my opinion.

I'm not saying the price was the issue. The fact that you don't know that you don't need to buy all of the controllers (or any of them), or that you could reuse them. This is rather central to your argument that the Wii lets you play other games while these controllers did not.

Thus, you should do your HW. It's the little things like this that get a bit frustrating. You clearly know next to nothing about the industry, but you continually talk about it like you do. The fact that 99% of your arguments are mind-numblingly trivial or ridiculous, like this one, adds to the frustration.

whats ridiculous is that you take a throw away one liner as an argument, and get all OCD about it.

Calm down. These are only games. This is only a low traffic forum, on a site thats dedicated to ANOTHER game, thats not discussed (usually) in this forum. OK? This forum is, usually, a calm place for idly chatting about games. Its not some intense hardware site, its not neoGaf, its not quartertothree.

Why do people have to come in here and be insulting, and take every little comment and turn it into a bitter fight?

Because some people seem to think spamming retarded "one liners" is fun or useful to the site. They're not, particularly when they're not true.

Now, if you want to add one liners that are amusing, then be my guest...but shotgunning the forum with incorrect "one liners" isn't helpful to anyone.

look at the several posts above mine. all one liners, all throwaways.

But you jumped on mine, and treated one more addition to an idle conversation as some evil mucking up of the forum.

And if you wish to pursue this, Im still substantially correct. Yeah, you can play other similar games to RB with the RB stuff - and of course you can play other similar games to Wii Sports with the Wii. As WELL as other games that are less similar. And the prices are in the same ball park.

Ergo, Spikes implied comparison stands.

Yes, I was.

In fact I am quite interested by GH3 and will probably get it when the price comes down a bit (too many games at the moment so no rush). Though I have no experience the gimmicky controller probably does add to the fun.

However, my joke was partly mocking Asher as well for his continued abuse of the Wii for a controller that for several newer games (SMG for instance) the reviewers have been praising for innovation. I think it's nice to have an alternative to dual analog, personally. Especially since I already have an Xbox with great games using the more standard controller.

I think the price will drive a lot of people away. Plus I think it is has been marketed to much as a social game. I don't think most people will want to gather up 4 people every time they want to play Rock Band. I know that isn't the only way you can play the game but I think most people view it like that. Maybe that is just my biased viewpoint, not really my type of game .

The main thing preventing this game from selling well, at least initially, is its size.

The box is massive. EB & Co don't have space to stock much. Logistically it's hard to ship them out in mass quantities. It'll be supply constrained the holiday season, I think.

On top of that, out of the box it's massive. I don't think I've got space in my apartment to play it properly.

I can't say I'm terribly excited. I think it has the potential to do extremely well, but only if it gets a lot of things exactly right - otherwise all the negatives mentioned here will kill it.

Having played the demo of this, I can't wait. The drums gameplay itself makes the package worth it and that's not even taking into account the full band experience.

But is that demographic large enough to drive sufficient sales?

When people say they think this will sell well do they mean in comparison to GH3? Bioshock? Halo3?

I think 2-3 million by the end of the year will be easy. That demographic is large in the US, then you have the same demographics globally as well.

There's no ****ing way they'll sell 2-3 million this year, if only for logistical reasons.

Those numbers are Halo 3 territory in a short period of time. I mean, think about it.

Apparently Gamestops are only getting 3-4 copies per store, so I'm not seeing huge sales on the near horizon. I'm sure those will sell out, but it sounds like availability is going to be very limited.
