XP Freeciv: No sound? Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I'm playing on my XP box and notice that there is no settings for sound in FreeCiv - and I don't hear any sound in the game. I turned on "Beep at end or turn" and I get a pc-speaker beep at the end of my turn.

Is this right? No sound in FreeCiv for Windoze?

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

No kidding!

Well, I copied the sound files to my data dir. Now when my explorer moves (for example) I hear the standard computer bell sound "boink".

It isn't as cool as I had hoped.

I notice though that there is a spot in the config to choose my sound plugin? What is a sound plugin? It defaults to a blank when I begin a new game and I have the options of "none" or "winmm". All of these options do the same thing - I move my character and the bell goes "boink".

I didn't see a place to download sound plugins...
