spammer! Now this is quite a nice subject. I like it. One of the funniest features in CIV was the Palace, that was shamelessly replaced ba the rather silly Throne Room feature. Well, I go for PALACE, outside architecture is more fun than inside one |

Sorry about the previous post, it's hard for me to contain vocab humor Anyway, I think the CTP system of the "forbidden city" was bad simply because it was so linear. The CivII system was much better, enabling you to combine different looks and feels. I can't really judge Civ1 since I didn't play it much, but I think overall the system that allows the most freedom of choice is the best system, unless it makes me design my own graphics and such. Most players would be too lazy for that! ------------------ "Any shred of compassion left in me was snuffed out forever when they cast me into the flames..." - Marsil, called the Pretender |

And the people spake: "Let there be palace!"And the great Firaxis gods heeded, and it was so. And Civilization begat Civilization 2, and civilization 2 begat SMAC, and Cain begat CTP, and Civilization begat again, this time bringing forth the holy one, the messiah, Civilization 3. And there was much rejoicing. And it had a palace. Hey Mark G why don't you post a pic of the Civ 1 Palace so people who don't know it can get to see it in all it's beauty and grandeur! While the throne room had more diversity then the forbidden city, the palace had even more, because you could choose three entirely different styles!!! |

Sorry, but I want something new, as I already wrote in other posts (and just for sake of easy reference I rewrite in short here).I vote for a long list of age-related improvement, from gardens to castles, from statues to paintings, from city renamed to your leader name to special buildings (highest tower of the world, longest bridge, new modern hospital or university, etc.). You can see it as lot of icons (easy to customize, you MOD fans ) in a interactive part of civilopedia that show them as they progress, with a bit of descriptive text. It will be like a "The Great Book of your leader name here Dinasty" or "The Great Book of your civilization name here Civilization". Add a "Save Book as Html" and you get a Permanent Diary to proudly show to friends and players. ------------------ Admiral Naismith AKA mcostant |

IF CIV 3 DOESNT HAVE THRONE ROOM WITH IMPROVED CURTIANS I REFUSE TO BUY THE GAME!!! just joking, but seriously these little triffles have nothing to do with the game. It is ok if you like it but comon is a poll needed? I think there is alot more pressing issues to most of us civers that could be polled on.

Well, okay... what's your idea then? Anyway, I think the Throne Room is an excellent part of the civ ambiance that just makes the game that much richer. ------------------ "Any shred of compassion left in me was snuffed out forever when they cast me into the flames..." - Marsil, called the Pretender |

I shut that stuff off (the palace, the throne room, the interludes, the monuments, what have you). It gets in the way of managing and ruling my empire; I don't need some special screen to tell me I am great, just look at my civ! |

I'd like the throne room again, but with a few changes, most importantly I want to be able to see the throne rooms of other leaders as a major part of the diplomacy screen, I'd love the chance to dictate terms to ceasar while he's sitting on a rock in a ratty throne room. lol |

Come on, guys! >:P Are you affraid that Firaxis innovate? Most of you are asking for a Palace and a Throne Room again! Palease!!! You should incite them instead on making something that will awe us, something that we can say "Yes! This really reflects the grandeur of my civilization!".In my not-too-humble opinion, I bet you won't be working for them in your life time, if you're narrow minded! Hey guys, I still love ya! Call me a traditionalist, but I just like the palace. I'd like to see brand spanking new graphics, and more (potentially silly) customisation options. Following the thread of this increasingly petty whim, how's about a 3D spinny-rotatey palace, complete with tour function? |

The palace was cooler because you could mix and match styles. (Hmmm, shall we visit the arabesque wing or the gothic wing? Senator Peter Murphy? Oh, the gothic wing then!) The "forbidden city" (that name's a new one on me) stunk on ice. I'll probably just turn it off - unless the palace has some really cool styles to blend! (Its a gothic cathedral on the right, neoclassical in the center, and don't forget the IM Pei wing recently installed . . .) |

Exactly. There was nothing wrong with the throne room of Civ2, except that it only ended up one way. The value of the palace in Civ was the variety of styles that could be chosen. That's what's needed. |

I want a documentary that every once in a while gets updated! At the end of SMAC they show an incredibly low res map that plays out the spread of your empires colour over the world (I don't remember if Civ II does the same thing and my father in law has my disk so I can't load it up to find out). Well, I just love that feature (as crappily done as it is). What I would like to see is some sort of documentary that plays out the history of your civilization. They could have various short mpegs for each epoch and a voice-over generator to provide the narrative. Something like: "Your empire was spawned in a peaceful world [clip of peaceful explorers/farmers] ... a beautiful garden was built in your capital [hanging garden wonder] ... but war soon came to your land [battle scene appropriate for epoch of your first big fight] ... unable to make peace with your enemy, your artisans threw up massive fortifications on the frontier [great wall wonder] ... etc. etc." The narrative would be decided by what happened in your empire and once in a while when enough new scenes were added you would see another clip. Much better than the weirdness of a throne room when you're playing a twentieth century democracy. |

I'd love to see the "history of your civilization" idea if it could be done well, it sounds really neat, but also hard to program in. If they did that and put the throne room over in your diplomacy screen I would be MORE then thrilled. It would be awesome. |

Ahhh, you stole my idea before I had a chance to have it! How about documenting the history of civilization with a sort of Hieroglyphics? For each new advance you'd have the picture of Anubis presenting the thing to the ruler (you). For each conquest you'd have a picture of the conquered bearing gifts or the ruler kicking them into a submissive posture (which the Pharohs seemed to like). Wonders would be depicted as presented by the ruler to the worshipful people. There is a lot that could be done with the idea. You could have different styles of picto-grams, an African style, a Mayan style, a Bayeux tapestry style, a Greek style, an Indian style, and so on and so on. You could even have the style of the pictograms modernize over time, culminating in "Movietones" shorts in the twentietn century, eventually leading into a webpage style towards the end. |
