WORK-AROUND: MAC MGE PATCH ERROR
(16 March 2001, 19:00 EST) CmdrSalamander has recently discovered a work around for a "feature" that was preventing Mac users from applying the Civ2 MGE Ver. 1.1.1 patch:
I figured out how to update Civ on the Mac from 1.0 to 1.1.1. Before this, I just kept on running the updater and getting an error with a code number that made no sense to me or to anyone I knew. Then I tried this and it worked.
You have to rename the application from "Civilization II Gold 1.0" to "Civilization II Gold 1.1". Sounds stupid, doesn't it? But it works.
This useful tidbit will be added to the Patch notes on the ACS Mac-Civ2 page. See the Forum discussion to pass on a word of praise and thanks to Salman. -macuser

(16 November 2000, 23:11 EST) The good news is that I have posted 9 new Mac scenarios and a map of the Indian subcontinent on the Civ2 Mac Scenarios page. The bad news is that I have not yet added the descriptions and credits. So, for the short term just play them all! ;) -macuser
RED FRONT AND DARK TOWER FOR MAC
(19 September 2000, 0:00 EST) I am pleased to announce that the GameStats techies have fixed my ACS access! I can now catch up on all the scenarios that have been sent to me for posting! First a HUGE conversion and some real coding: Wulf has converted the epic Red Front scenario by Capt. Nemo and Alex the Magnificent and has additionally written an AppleScript Delevent file for the Macintosh!! This took a tremendous amount of effort and is greatly appreciated and eagerly awaited by the Mac-Civ community! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I'd hate to follow an act like that, unless it were an original and novel scenario! And yes, it is! Mike Lacy has created for us the Dark Tower! A Tolkien-esque Heroic Fantasy scenario for Civ II, written for the Macintosh. Go to the Civ2-Mac Scenarios page. Now that I'm up and running I'll be posting more soon! Stay tuned for more and check the ACS Civ2-Mac Forum frequently for updates! -macuser
HI-RES VER 2 ADDITIONAL UNIT FILES
(4 May 2000, 8:16 EST) I regret to say that the original HiRes ver.2 post lacked two units files: UNITS.PICT and UNITORIG.PICT. Go to unitpicts.sit if you downloaded prior to 3 May 00, 18:30 EST US time. The current HiRes file is complete. I performed penance last night by watching the KC Royals loose 14 to 5 to the Oakland A's. -macuser
HI-RES VERSION 2, MO`PRI MAP AND THE VIKING AGE FOR MAC
(2 May 2000, 23:54 EST) First the BIG news: HiRes Version 2 is here! Yes, you heard it right! Smash sent me the latest Tim F. Smith creation and now I have the honor of passing it on to you! (check out the honorable mention in the Read Me "Appreciation" section! ;-) Go straight to the Mac Scenario section, do not pass GO...
While I'd hate to follow that announcement on stage, the Mac page features two other new additions. First we have the Mo'Pri Map, based on the online fantasy game Monarchy, created by Jon o Thicket, Cartographer, (you'll recognize him as JoT on the ACS Forum). Ya gotta love the shape this world! Second, Harlan Thompson's The Viking Age, Ver.2.0, has been converted for Mac by Mantis. From this day forward all boats will bear scary faces that breath fire on rickety AI rafts!
Our Civ worlds will never look the same again!! -macuser
17 SCENARIOS FOR CIV II ADDED TO MAC PAGE
(19 March 2000, 23:44 EST) In response to numerous questions about scenarios for the original, single-player Civ II, I have posted 17 scenarios on the Mac Scenario Page. (Thanks to "EricTheRed" for sending them to me!) If you have any problems getting these to work, be sure and send me an e-mail or post on the Mac Forum By the way, be sure and read the thread about playing PC scenarios and modpacks on the Mac WITHOUT conversions! -macuser
LOW PRICES FOR CIV FOR MAC AT MACSOFT
(11 March 2000, 11:22 EST) This is somewhat old news, but have you checked out the MacSoft/GT Interactive store at GT Store: MacSoft lately? The price of Civilization II for Macintosh and Civilization II Multiplayer Gold Ed. for Macintosh (MPG) has dropped dramatically! The original Civ II is selling for $9.99 (US) and MPG for $19.99! Hopefully, the local computer superstores (read as CompUSA and Micro Center) will soon follow suit. They are still selling for Civ II for $32.99 and MPG for 49.99!
The MacSoft store also has a software bundle, "Mac Strategy Pack," containing Civ II, Deadlock: Planetary Conquest, Master of Orrin II: Battle at Antares and Star Control 3 for $29.99. The downside to the bundle is that the manuals are on the respective CDs rather than as hardcopy books. However, if you're like me and half regret sending in my old Civ II CD for the rebate, this is a good way to get copy. Actually, you might find this locally. I picked up the Pack at Micro Center for the same price.
Now is a GREAT time to buy MPG for yourself or for a friend, or both! :) -macuser
A HOUSE DIVIDED
(10 March 2000, 7:57 EST) Michael Witry's new alternate-timeline, post Civil War scenario has just been posted on the Mac Scenario page. It includes the gif files for PC users as well as the pict files for Macs. Note: in order to get the sound files, you have to send Mike a review and comments about the scenario! :) -macuser
MAC PAGE UPDATE: SCENARIOS AND UTILITIES
(12 February 2000, 18:47 EST) It finally happened, I fixed some links and added stuff to the Civ II Mac page! New to the page is a scenario by Michael Witry along with better descriptions of the existing scenarios. Additionally, two oh-so-cool scenario utilities have been added. Chris Beigner has written an Apple Script for converting PC Scenarios to Mac versions! It is appropriately called Convert Scenario.
To go along with the Convert Scenario Script, we have the latest version of GraphicConverter for PPC! If you subscribe to MacAddict, you can avoid the download as it is on the Feb Phat-CD (also known as THE DISC)! Speaking of MacAddict, there is a link to their review of Civ II on the Reviews page.
So, now your saying to yourself "what'a bout the OTHER broken links...the OLD MPG page...the nonexistent CtP page...and where's THE DEITY's Gwani scenario???" Yeah, yeah...go and play Mike's W.W.I scenario and by the time the Kaiser is done moping up Europe with you, I'll have some MORE stuff to post! 'til then. -macuser
