ACSR DAILY
|
|
In response to the growing demand and interest in the Apolyton Civilization Site Radio (ACSR) a year-and-a-half after it was launched, ACSR Daily was introduced on July 29th, 2001 which offered the previous or most recent day's worth of news in audio format. In March 2002, the ACSR administration announced that the 'station' would not broadcast during the months of April or December due to educational commitments. As such, Daily's first season comprised a whopping 245 episodes over eight months ending on March 30th, 2002. Primarily technical difficulties forced the station to remain further silent for the months of May, June and the first third of July the same year.
When re-launched July 12th, 2002 alongside ACSR Weekly with shows retroactive to July 8th, Dailybecame a strictly weekday entity while weekend coverage -- compiled into a single show airing the following Monday -- would fall under the ACSR Weekend banner. It was anticipated that Daily's second season would not have as many episodes as the first season, but was expected to run just as if not longer than the first... but that did not come to pass. After 38 episodes over two months, Season 2 abruptly ended due to increasing time demands of station administration in assorted personal matters.
Seven-and-a-half tense months later, Daily begins its third season with a May 1st, 2003 edition with the intention of ending with the conclusion of that August. Its then-current run along with Weekend was extended into September for the first time. An October extension for both timely followed. Extensions seemed to becoming the norm when November and December shows were ordered at once, and then even less surprisingly January and February 2004 on the eve of the New Year. What followed then was
unexpected. Details follow below, but in short Daily was retired as of March 1st with a spectacular 303 episode bank in Season 3.
The first formal opinion poll put to Apolyton's registered forum users in late January 2004 put the futures of both Daily and Weekend on the 'popularity line'. 48% of the 42 users who cast ballots voted in favour of dropping Daily but continuing Weekend broadcasts. The ACSR administration elected to 'look beyond the numbers' which showed fondness towards Daily in a capacity not anticipated: many accompanying comments asked for Weekend broadcasts to encompass the previous seven days' worth of news and not just Saturday's and Sunday's. In response, the last Daily and Weekend broadcasts came at months end -- February 27th, 2004 specifically for Daily.
Since the launch of ACS' official podcast (and now podcasts), PolyCast, in October 2006, the effective purpose of Daily has been included within it and considerably beyond.
